McCarty Family Farms Processing Plant
Located on our home farm, the McCarty Family Farms processing plant is the only one of its kind in North America. Through our innovative evaporative milk condensing process, our milk's volume is significantly reduced by reclaiming milk's natural water content. Reclaimed water is used for irrigation while the reduced milk volume requires a much smaller footprint to send on to our customer.
What makes your processing plant unique?
Water, a major component of fluid milk is unnecessary in the yogurt making process, so before shipping our milk to Danone NA, we use an evaporative cooling process that reclaims the water and ultimately reduces the product volume.
How much water do you reclaim?
In addition to reclaiming milk's natural water component, we recycle the fresh water used in the cooling process. In total we capture 158 million gallons of water for reuse. The reclaimed water is used to clean the barns and irrigate our crops.
Are there other benefits of this process?
The condensed milk's volume is significantly smaller which reduces our overall footprint on roadways. In fact, we remove 45,000 gallons of water per day from milk. As a result, we use 75% fewer trucks to transport milk to the processor.
